Modernist Poetry Techniques:
Diction
Definition: The choice and use of words in speeches or writing.
Function: Words are important when the author wants to create a certain mood to evoke feelings from the reader. The diction is crucial in supporting the piece of writing; if the words are not right, the reader will not be interested in the story.
Example: Different words can create different emotions; positive, neutral, and negative tones can be achieved.
Positive: Admiring, optimistic, affectionate, humorous.
Neutral: Commanding, direct, objective, questioning.
Negative: Ambiguous, impatient, hostile, mocking.
